CASE STUDY OF THE WEEK –¬†Jessica

  • Why Do You Choose InspireCycle?

Spin was the only exercise that I could do whilst pregnant that allowed me to get my heart rate up, whilst not causing pubic symphysis and ligamentous pain. I had previously done a lot of running and road cycling but had to stop in the second trimester because of pelvic pain and fear of bike crashes. Riding on a stationary bike was fantastic. When pregnant you lose your centre of gravity and sense of balance a bit, but I was able to safely ride on the bikes with no trouble at InspireCycle.

  • Explain Your InspireCycle Journey.

InspireCycle was an absolute saviour for me whilst pregnant. I was used to training everyday prior to pregnancy. I realised that I used running and cycling as a way to deal with stress and also socialise. Suddenly, I was unable to attend my running and cycling groups and I was incredibly restless. After doing a lot of research and attending a variety of exercise classes, I also realised that there are limited options out there for pregnant women and that a lot of fitness and pilates instructors are not always accommodating to pregnant women.

The instructors and staff at InspireCycle were so encouraging and enthusiastic about me exercising there. Attending Inspire allowed me to continue my exercise in a social setting. Two of my friends who were pregnant at the same time as me also joined and we would go together. If you were feeling particularly tired on one day, you can slow the pace of the work out and tailor it to your needs. I actually rode 2-3 times per week until the birth of my baby.

  • What would you say has changed in your workout being pregnant? Modifications etc?

Obviously, your range of movement changes as your tummy gets bigger. It was great to be in a class where I could make adjustments to the different exercises as I progressed in my pregnancy without feeling like I was holding up the class or being an inconvenience. The instructors were fantastic in subtly suggesting different options to me during the class.

  • What benefits has InspireCycle given you whilst pregnant?

Going to InspireCycle meant that I could maintain a degree of cardiovascular fitness whilst pregnant. Now that I have had my baby, I can see that staying fit during my pregnancy has helped my recovery postpartum. I would highly recommend it.
