DON’T LET THE DAILY GRIND AFFECT YOUR ENTIRE MINDSET…
Work/life balance is so difficult for many of us who are passionate about what we do in our career, however sometimes being too passionate can get in the way. Alternatively, being in a day to day job that is mundane and there just to pay the bills can also get you in a grind funk.
Everyone deserves to do something that they love, or at least enjoy – because let’s face it, we spend so much time at work and we only have one life! Here’s how we get inspired…
TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR TIME
Meetings, deadlines, and endless to-do lists: if you’re not able to manage your work calendar, it will start to conquer you. Setting clear guidelines and learning what distracts you will help you to make the most of your time at work. Check off the tasks that require creativity or concentration first thing in the morning and then move on to easier work, like deleting emails or scheduling meetings later in the day.
Another great way to conquer the day, is the make a to-do list at night or first thing in the morning – it not only keeps anxiety at bay, but it helps you to feel accountable for your daily tasks.
TAKE A BREAK + RECONNECT WITH YOURSELF
The old saying “absence makes the heart grow fonder” can actually be applied to the relationship you have with your job. It’s been proven to actually be beneficial to your health and productivity to go on vacation. Even the process of planning and the anticipation of taking time off has direct correlation to improving your happiness.
Vacations are known to act as motivation to be better at work and work harder at your job. Employees who take holiday’s more often report feeling more refreshed and creative after they’ve had the chance to disconnect from their daily work grind.
FORGET ABOUT PERFECTION
Over analysing every mistake you made at work, or getting that one task completed absolutely perfectly not only causes anxiety but it wastes precious time. It’s important to set realistic goals and aim to achieve them, rather than dreaming up a huge outcome with too much to handle. It’s better to learn from your mistakes and move forward, and focus on doing your best rather than worrying over outcomes that may never be good enough.
It can be difficult to find things to celebrate, especially when things don’t seem sunny. It’s so important for your mental state to not just get caught up in achieving your goals, but to stop your daily grind stop for a moment and focus on your successes and celebrate your accomplishments (no matter how big or small). You may even pause to be grateful for the mistakes that help you learn valuable lessons and that create opportunities for growth.
DISCOVER A HOBBY OR SIDE HUSTLE THAT INSPIRES YOU
If your passion is not shining through at work, you may need to look for a hobby or side hustle that gets your heart racing and puts a smile on your face. Make a list of everything that inspires you or makes you feel great, and then get busy – put it into practice. It may be an online opportunity, hands on arts project, new group exercise (Hello, InspireCycle), or just unplugging and reading or writing – find your happiness.
GET OUT AND SWEAT
Exercise provides endorphins like no other, so it would be a waste of our life not to practice getting our sweat on and changing our mindset one moment at a time. Exercise is a proven productivity builder, it can transform our bodies, and it can make us much more effective mentally to take on the day. Just make a start, it may be challenging, but after you’ve finished you’ll be so glad you did it.
