We all know what your coaches get up to for their 5–9, but what about their 9–5? 👀

From corporate life to creative careers, parenthood and everything in between, we’re getting to know the people behind the microphone to find out what they get up to when they’re not making you sweat.

We chatted to Emma, Alex, Meg, Gus, Hayley and Tyra, just some of the familiar faces you know and love around the studio. ✨

What do you get up to when you’re not at Inspire?

When I’m not at Inspire, I’m working in the city as a criminal lawyer! I represent people who are under police investigation, charged with criminal or traffic offences, or involved in domestic violence matters. My weeks are BUSY. I’m often in court in the mornings for everything from bail applications and sentences to hearings and trials, before heading back to the office for written submissions, evidence reviews, client meetings and approximately one million emails and phone calls.

It can be stressful, but I love thinking on my feet and advocating for my clients. After work, you’ll usually find me decompressing on the Inspire podium (or on the couch)!

What would our community be surprised to learn about you?

Probably that I have a big girl job and somehow still find time to take classes! Inspire actually is what forces me to switch off from work. If I’ve had a tough day, coaching always lifts me back up.

Plus, I’ve figured out a way to get paid to exercise and that’s pretty cool.

Do your two worlds ever cross?

Thankfully, not too much! 😂 Aside from the occasional “Hey, you’re a lawyer, can I ask you a question?”, there isn’t much crossover.

But one thing definitely carries across both roles: the ability to listen, connect with people and really see them.

After a heavy day at work, Inspire lifts such a weight off me. As a lawyer, I sometimes have to give people difficult advice they don’t want to hear. At the studio, I get to create something positive, fun and wholesome for our members, and honestly, it fills my cup just as much as yours 🫶🏼

What do you get up to when you’re not at Inspire?

I have about 10 other jobs! #busywoman. When I’m not at Inspire or teaching Lagree, you’ll usually find me creating content and working on brand strategy for a small female-founded jewellery brand, hanging out with my two daughters, or doing some kind of DIY project to slowly turn our house and garden into a whimsical magical land 🧚🏻

And if that is not enough for one woman, I’m also in the midst of creating a new business. I was inspired (see what I did there 😉) by a special moment with my daughter.

This business centres on education around helping children understand and navigate through their emotions safely and learn self-regulation, but wrapped up in magic, fairies, movement and simple frameworks they can actually connect with.

What would our community be surprised to learn about you?

Probably how many different areas of wellness I work across. I started in fitness in 2019 and moved into Reiki a couple of years later, which naturally evolved into holistic health and coaching. I now think about wellness from the inside out: physical, mental, emotional, metaphysical and energetic ✨

Do your different worlds ever cross?

Absolutely. They might look completely different from the outside, but there’s a really clear thread connecting everything I do: connection, energy, expression and helping people feel good in themselves.

That’s something I bring into my coaching too. For me, it’s not just about the workout, it’s about reading the room, meeting people where they’re at and helping them get out of their heads and into their bodies. And of course, creativity runs through everything, whether I’m building a brand, creating movement or literally building (aka getting on the tools in my backyard!)

What do you get up to when you’re not at Inspire?

I’m usually in full mum mode! I’m a mum to my little girl Millie, a dog mum to Koda, and I also work in the Queensland Police Service call centre, so there’s definitely never a dull moment. Between work, family, Koda and keeping on top of everything at home. Life is pretty busy, but I wouldn’t have it any other way! 🤗

What might surprise our clients about your life outside Inspire?

Probably that I work for QPS in the call centre! I think people are sometimes surprised because it feels like such a different world from Inspire. One minute I’m coaching a high-energy class and motivating everyone, and the next I’m in an environment where you never quite know what the next call is going to bring. It definitely keeps things interesting!

Do your worlds ever cross over?

Absolutely. Working in the QPS call centre has taught me to stay calm under pressure, communicate with all different types of people and adapt quickly when things don’t go to plan, all things that come in handy when coaching!

And Inspire gives me the same thing in return: a chance to switch off, have fun, connect with people and bring a little extra energy into the rest of my life.

What do you get up to when you’re not at Inspire?

When I’m not at Inspire, I’m usually still somewhere in the fitness and wellness world! I work in gym management, looking after teams, members, operations and creating great experiences for people. Outside of work, you’ll find me listening to music, creating content, training, travelling when I can, discovering new places to eat and drink or spending quality time with my favourite people. Basically, I don’t sit still very well.

Why do you love what you do?

I love having the balance between the operational and leadership side of fitness and the fun, high-energy side I get from teaching.

What might surprise our clients about your life outside Inspire?

This might not be much of a surprise… but I love buying costumes and wigs, even if I never actually wear them! 💃🏻

You never know when a costume emergency might arise, right?

Do your worlds ever cross over?

Absolutely. Management has taught me that everyone is motivated by something different. Some people want to be pushed, some need encouragement, some need to have a laugh, and sometimes people just need someone to believe in them before they believe in themselves.

That’s something I bring into my coaching. I want everyone to feel like they belong in the room, regardless of their fitness level or experience.

And on the flip side, coaching has made me a better manager too. It’s taught me how important energy, connection and communication are. You can have the best plan in the world, but if you can’t connect with people, it means nothing.

For me, fitness is about so much more than the workout, it’s the music, the energy, the community and how you feel when you walk out of the room. And that’s what I love most about it. 🌈✨

What do you get up to when you're not at Inspire?

Movement is still very much my world. I coach across a handful of different studios and spaces, so fitness is my full time career alongside the most important job I'll ever have — being a mum to my two girls. When I'm not teaching you'll find me somewhere near the water on a long walk, taking a class for myself, or in the kitchen prepping something delicious. I'm a big believer in practising what I preach.

My weeks are beautifully unpredictable, honestly. The flexibility of this career means I never miss a school run, I'm there for assemblies and events, and I get to be really present in my kids' lives. It's a full, rich life and I'm genuinely grateful for it every single day. 🩷

What might surprise our clients about your life outside Inspire?

That I have hard weeks too. Weeks where motivation feels far away and showing up feels like a lot. I've spent years finding movement that actually brings me joy rather than feeling like punishment, and that changes everything. I want that for every single person I coach.

Do your worlds ever cross over?

Constantly and beautifully. Motherhood has made me a more patient, compassionate and adaptable coach. And coaching has shown my girls what it looks like to back yourself, show up consistently and take care of your body with love. They're always watching and honestly, that's my greatest motivation.

What do you get up to when you’re not at Inspire?

I’m an Assistant Store Manager at Aesop! 🧼

What does a typical week look like when you’re not coaching?

Life outside Inspire is a whole other realm! Full-time management has been such a rewarding experience, and I genuinely love connecting with people who love our products and find joy in them.

When I’m not at work, I spend time helping out at my family’s plant nursery. I may have grown up around plants, but please don’t ask me how to keep them alive! 😂 It’s a nice way to disconnect and literally feel the grass. The rest of my time is spent socialising with my loved ones and making sure I get some me time too. I aim to work out around three times a week, which keeps me feeling balanced.

What might surprise our clients about your life outside Inspire?

Despite being such a busy bee and constantly out socialising, I’m actually a huge homebody! I never seem to have much time to relax, but when I do, you’ll find me colouring in, watching TV or reading with my phone on DND. 📵🧘🏻‍♀️

Do your worlds ever cross over?

A quote that has never left me came from our faithful Mark Stocks: “Feedback is a gift.” It’s something that has helped me so much, both during my time at Inspire and now managing at Aesop.

I genuinely crave feedback now! And of course, there’s a little Aesop crossover too… I love bringing the reception girls a bottle of hand balm. So, if you’re nice enough, they might let you try some 🙊

So there you have it! Our coaches are juggling busy careers, family, passions and everything in between, but one thing they all make time for is themselves. It’s a good reminder that even when life gets busy, carving out time to move, reset and do something for you matters. 🫶🏼

So, take a leaf out of their book. Book into their next class, get amongst the energy, and experience them in their natural habitat…
