MEET LAUREN

Get to know your instructors - RICHMOND

Meet Lauren!

A familiar face at both the Teneriffe and Richmond studios, Lauren is your newest Inspire Cycle Richmond instructor, with her first solo podium debut next Sunday 🤍.

She's bubbly, supportive, and will immediately feel like both your coach and best friend. Lauren will have you riding to your favourite pop hits, and leaving class feeling empowered, uplifted, and ready to take on the day!

Get to know Lauren below...

Lauren, tell us a little bit about you!

I'm originally from New Zealand, and moved to the Sunshine Coast, QLD when I was 12! Straight after high school I moved to Melbourne to study, and have spent a few years back and forth between the Sunshine Coast since then.

I work full time as a mental health social worker. When I’m not doing that, I’m either spinning, at the park with my Labrador Daisy or mucking around with some friends. I’m always up for a chat and a laugh, and can usually be found doing just that before and after classes.

Can you tell us about your background in the fitness industry and how you got started at Inspire?

I started rhythm riding at the end of 2020, at a studio on the Sunshine Coast where I grew up. I was looking for a form of exercise that was enjoyable, fun, and didn’t feel like a chore. I’d tried lots of different styles of exercise across my life - and never truly found something that clicked or that I didn’t eventually grow tired of.

I remember starting out, riding in the back row in the corner - convinced I would never “find the beat” let alone manage to hold a sprint out of the saddle. But I stuck at it for the music, the atmosphere, the community, and the way I felt after finishing every single class proud. It changed the exercise game for me, and turned moving my body into something I genuinely looked forward to.

I was first introduced to Inspire Cycle in Brisbane when I would visit family there each month in 2020. In 2021, I moved back to Melbourne and discovered United Ride (now Inspire Cycle Box Richmond)! I’ve been riding there ever since.

Describe yourself in 3 words.

Accepting, caring, driven.

How would you describe your teaching style?

I’d say my teaching style is uplifting, empowering, fun, and doesn’t take itself too seriously. I’d like to think I’m a combination of some of the incredible instructors I’ve been lucky to train with throughout the years. People who knew when to push me, cheer for me, slow it down or lighten things up.

What’s your favourite motivational mantra to get you through a tough class?

It doesn’t have to be perfect, my best today is good enough.

What do you love most about teaching Cycle?

Seeing people’s sweaty, happy, proud faces walking out at the end.

What kind of music can we expect to hear in your class, and who’s your favourite artist of all time?

How am I meant to answer this!? I love female rap artists, funky-groovy-disco tunes, a peppering of EDM and a healthy dose of heart-warming tear-jerkers. Think Megan Thee Stallion, Lizzo, Lady Gaga, Cardi B, Todrick Hall, Taylor Swift, Mark Ronson, Charli XCX, Katy Perry, Lana Del Rey, MIA and the likes.

What advice would you give to someone taking your class for the first time?

Release any pressure you might be putting on yourself. Move your body without judgment. Give it your best (whatever that looks like on the day). Let go of any expectations. Smile and don’t take it too seriously!

Some fun extras!

What’s your go-to fun fact or something we might be surprised to learn about you?

I’m a full-time mental health social worker outside of the studio!

Next destination on your bucket list?

Norway.

What is your biggest goal for 2023?

To say yes more! To do things I might find a little scary, challenging or uncomfortable.

What will be your first theme ride?

Ladies night!

Favourite time of the day to work out?

... I do love an early morning. Sorry!

Athleisure or dressing up?

Day-to-day athleisure, but a good excuse (with enough pre-warning) and I’m not opposed to getting dressed up.
